The wild, or alpine, strawberry is a native British wildflower found next to hedgerows and in open woodland. Its small fruit are packed with flavour.  It is a food plant for the caterpillars of both the Grizzled Skipper butterfly and the Strawberry Tortrix moth, its flowers are popular with pollinators, and its fruit feed a range of animals. Grows up to 30cm tall and spreads over time, in full sun or dappled shade and a moist but well-drained soil. White flowers are produced from April to July.
