About
Horfield Greenary is a small (micro!) business based in Horfield, Bristol since 2021. I am passionate about plants, about wildlife and about the environment. After looking for places to buy plants without the plastic pots, peat or pesticides, and failing, I decided to set up my own nursery to do just that.
About the Plants
I grow the plants here in Bristol from seed (or bulb/corm or cutting) so I can ensure that no peat or pesticides are used at any stage. This also means I can reduce plant miles.
Each variety is tested here in our garden to check it thrives in our local environment (impeded drainage, lime-rich loamy and clayey soils). The notes I provide for each plant will always say if a variety is better grown in a container rather than in our local soil. The photos and videos on our website all come from our Horfield garden (unless otherwise stated).

Who I Am
In August 2025, I transitioned to being a sole trader; Catherine Moyes trading as Horfield Greenary. I learnt how to grow plants from my mum and my gran, and I have formal training in botany and ecology. I started out as an ecologist working on wild plant / insect communities at the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and then moved to work on the ecology of insects that bite humans (mosquitoes).
I love wildlife and bikes, plus a drink in the garden when all the work is done.
