A native British, evergreen wildflower of grasslands. It is a foodplant for a range caterpillars including the Garden Tiger Moth, which we see in our Horfield garden. The seed provide food for garden birds in winter providing you don't prume/mow the seed heads.
It grows up to 50cm tall and 30cm across in full sun and a moist but well-drained soil. Its tiny brown and white flowers are wind pollinated.
