This native American shrub produces masses of pink flowers in early spring, which are popular with bees. Grows to 1.2m tall and 1.2m wide (or prune to a smaller size) in full sun or partial shade and a moist but well-drained soil.
Prune shortly after flowering to give time for new growth over the summer. It is this new growth that will produce next year's flowers. Prune to the size and shape you want and removeany dead or damaged branches.
The leaves will turn red in autumn and then drop, returning in early spring.
